Which Way Forward California?
A call for books not bars, jobs not jails
Let's turn the tide toward real solutions that invest in youth, families and communities.
Earlier this month, we watched as our state elected leaders missed a major opportunity to pass legislation that promotes healing and rehabilitation as a start to fixing California's wasteful and abusive prison system. Instead, our leaders decided to double down on the same failed policies of the past, pouring ever more money down the prison system.
What we learned is that we have to step up and speak up to show that there is another way forward for California, a way that builds safe and strong communities by by investing in solutions that have been cut to pay for prisons: schools, job training, and other services that help and heal.
Join us at our first community strategy session in Alameda County to make your voice heard, learn more California's prison system and how it can change, and join a growing movement of Californians committed to justice and opportunity for all.
Ella Baker Center is hosting this event with PICO and Oakland Community Organizations (OCO).
